Birmingham, Alabama’s Five Points South, chose the community’s integrity over welcoming Chick-Fil-A to the mix. Five Points South known for its eclectic mix of dining and entertainment venues has opted to reject Chick-Fil-A in the the dining mix based on the community’s objection to the Chick-Fil-A’s proposed drive-thru.
Because 5 Points West boast as being a pedestrian friendly district, the community unanimously opted to not to threaten that integrity with automobile traffic created by the drive thru. In addition, by allowing a drive thru, the foot traffic that business owners depend on for increase visibility would likely take a hit.
This is a good move for 5 Points South and I certainly applaud the community for wanting to uphold the historic structural and pedestrian friendly balance.
